Our Kashrut Policy
To ensure that the greatest amount of people feel comfortable participating in our minyan, we ask that you bring only vegetarian options to our potluck Shabbat dinners. If you have a Kosher kitchen, please mark your dish "Kosher". If your dish is vegetarian but you are using Non-Kosher cheese, please label your dish "Non-Kosher Cheese". If you are not Kosher, please label your dish "Non-Kosher". This way people who have stricter observance levels can choose between dishes easily. We always use disposable tableware.
Our Davening Style
We are an egalitarian traditional Minyan. Both women and men are welcome to lead any part of the davening, and in fact rely on lay-leaders to bring more spirit into our Minyanim. We do a full traditional service in Hebrew, with Ramah-style tunes, mixed with Carlebach, mixed with the whim of the SHAT"Z (the shaliach tzibbur, the prayer leader). We form a Minyan based on ten persons, regardless of gender. Currently we have mixed seating, but can be accomodating to people who would prefer a tri-chitzah (a play on the traditional concept of mechitzah, the seperation between men and women, creating three areas of seating: mixed (men and women together), men seperately, and women seperately.) Our siddur is in the process of being created by minyan participants, and will have Hebrew, English and Transliteration, along with an explanation of the history and purpose of the prayers we say. If you are interested in being involved in our siddur project, please let us know. We all come from different religious backgrounds and believe in making a traditional service and an authentic Shabbat experience available and accessible to everyone, no matter their levels of observance.
