How We Daven:
Davening (yiddish for "praying") can be a profoundly spiritual event. At CYPMinyan, we want to create an open-minded atmosphere of renewal and joy through our davening. Our traditional services are conducted in Hebrew, with lots of singing. Our leaders (all volunteers) are both male and female and are encouraged to bring new tunes to enlighten our congregation. We are completely egalitarian and our community is made up of people from very diverse Jewish backgrounds. Come see for yourself what davening can be.
Below you'll find a list of resources from the web with audio files for Kabbalat Shabbat and any upcoming holidays. Sometimes we switch around the tunes depending on who's leading. It take a little bit of time to learn new tunes if they are unfamiliar, but the links below will help you get a jump start and show you what to expect. This is also a great resource for those who might want to lead but need a little refresher. We also have volunteers who are looking to put together a class on how to lead a Friday night service, starting with the very basics. Please send us an e-mail if you are interested.
